In Paul’s letter to the Philippians, we learn more of the apostle’s affection than the apostle’s doctrine. We learn of his love for this local church. It is the first church he planted in Europe. He preached the gospel to its first converts. He baptized many of them. They supported his mission and gave him a sacrificial gift while he was in prison. He did not write to correct them. He wrote to encourage them. They had the greatest treasure one could possibly own- Jesus as their Lord, Savior and Life. They were to experience Him more and more.

Whereas the words ‘joy’, ‘rejoicing’ or ‘glad’ are mentioned 16 times in Paul’s letter, Christ is mentioned 37 times! He is the believer’s solid joy. He is the joy of their life and the life of their joy! In Chapter 1, He is their life (1:21). In Chapter 2, He is their mind (2:2,5) example (2:6-11) and power for obedience (2:13). In Chapter 3, He is their goal (3:10-16) and in Chapter 4, He is their strength (4:13).

Join us this Sunday as we embark on this fresh study of Paul’s epistle to the church at Philippi. You will be inspired to pursue a greater experience of God’s grace, purpose, peace, love, joy, humility, generosity, and victory.
